6 Lesser Known Uses of Salt

Salt is a miraculous mineral. This everyday ingredient, present in everyone’s kitchen, has many healing and helping properties. Here’s a flashback to the many ways in which salt has been used to help tackle many minor ailments and issues.

1.Keeping fruits from browning

Fruits are an excellent snack. Many fruits such as apples and pears tend to brown if kept in a container. To stop these fruits from browning, dip them in some saltwater. This will stop these fruits from browning and will keep them fresh for longer in your dabbas.

2.Reduce swelling

There are many reasons why our feet might become swollen. It is a common occurrence during pregnancy. For others, it may be an indication of an underlying health problem. A good way to reduce this swelling is to soak your feet in lukewarm water mixed with a spoon of rock salt. Do consult your doctor to discover the reason for the swelling.

3.Diminish mouth ulcers

Mouth ulcers can be very painful and bothersome. A well-known home remedy to help reduce the severity of mouth ulcers is a saltwater rinse. Many people recommend applying salt to the ulcers directly, but that can be quite painful. While a salty water rinse can also be uncomfortable, it is an effective remedy to reduce severity of ulcers.

4.Get odour off

Handling pungent ingredients such as garlic can leave a stubborn smell on your hands which is extremely difficult to get rid of. Simple hand soap just doesn’t help in getting rid of this smell. Create a mixture of vinegar and salt and use this to wash your hands. Use warm water for better results.

5.Brighten your teeth

Radish

Salt has been used for oral care since centuries. If you want to brighten your teeth, use a salt rinse or a rub to clean your teeth. You can also make a mixture of salt and baking soda to cleanse and brighten your teeth.

6.Treating burns

It is said that a saltwater compress can help speed up the healing process of a burn. Home remedies state that one must mix salt with some water to create a pasteand apply this paste with a clean clothon the burn after blister is formed over it.
